Remember when the web was FUN?! We do. This is an homage to 90s ~/public_html hosting. It's a place to be creative, weird, and build your own corner of the internet. By signing up, you agree to these terms. So, be excellent to each other, and let's build something cool.

👤 1. Your Account & Responsibilities

Your Content is Yours: You own the copyright and all intellectual property for the content you upload. You just grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide license to host, display, and serve it.

Keep Your Magic Link Safe: We use passwordless authentication. Your email is your key. If you lose access to your email, you may lose access to your account. Keep your inbox secure!

One Human, One Account: Accounts are for individuals. No bots, scrapers, or automated signups. Choose your ~username wisely—it's part of your public URL!

✨ 2. Acceptable & Prohibited Content

Our platform is for creative and political expression, but not for causing harm. We are not a neutral platform; we are a community with values aligned with intersectional justice.

While we encourage a wide range of content, including political, artistic, and counter-cultural work, we prohibit certain types of content to protect our community. This includes, but is not limited to:

Illegal Material
Malicious Code
Direct Harm & Harassment
Hate Speech
Reactionary "Reverse Oppression" Narratives

📦 3. Limits: The Fine Print

File Size Limit: 5MB per individual file.
Total Storage Limit: 50MB per account. This is enough for a robust personal site with images, but not for video hosting or large file archives. Use a dedicated image host for larger assets.
Bandwidth: We operate on a fair-use policy. Don't use your site as a high-traffic file download mirror or a CDN for another service.

©️ 4. Intellectual Property & DMCA

You retain your copyright. If you believe someone has uploaded content that infringes on your copyright, you may file a DMCA takedown notice with us. We follow a standard DMCA process, which includes an opportunity for the user to file a counter-notice. We respect fair use and transformative work and will not issue automatic takedowns without review.

⚙️ 5. Service Availability (It's a Beta!)

"As-Is" Service: public.monster is a beta project provided "as-is" without any warranties. Things might break, and features may change.
No Uptime Guarantee: We don't offer an SLA or guarantee 100% uptime.
NO BACKUPS: We do not back up your data. You are solely responsible for keeping local copies of your site. That's the 90s way!
Right to Discontinue: We reserve the right to modify or discontinue the service at any time, with reasonable notice when possible.

⚖️ 6. Enforcement & Account Termination

We enforce these terms as described in our Content Moderation Policy, which outlines our graduated enforcement and appeals process. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts for severe or repeated violations of these terms.

For Cause: Severe violations (like hosting CSAM or malware) will result in immediate termination.
For Inactivity: Accounts with no logins for over two (2) years may be considered abandoned and reclaimed.

You agree to use this service at your own risk. We are not responsible for any content posted by users or for any data loss you may experience.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless public.monster and its operators from any legal claims related to the content you host on our platform.

📝 8. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes via email or a notice on the site. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
